Top 5 tips for a trip to Copenhagen:

1. Cycling.

This is a huge part of what makes Copenhagen so wonderful. Something like 62% of Copenhageners cycle as their daily commute, it’s the best way to see the city and it’s just so easy to get around. Plus it adds to the childlike magic Copenhagen manages to evoke. Riding a bike still gives me this youthful feeling of fun, even if I’m riding to a job. I have a bike that I keep at my friends house as I visit so often.

If you are traveling, you can hire a bike from various apps like Donkey Republic. It really is the best way to get around.

2. Louisiana Museum of Modern Art

A short train trip up the coast will take you to this magnificent Museum of Modern Art. Set at the waters edge with panoramic views of Sweden & expansive grounds, the museum itself is a milestone in Danish Architecture, a series of mid century buildings connected with glass corridors which house an extensive permanent collection of modern & contemporary art. My top tip for a visit to Louisiana is to indulge in the buffet at the café. I would never usually opt for a buffet, but this is a fine example of the best cuisine Denmark has to offer, perfectly executed.

3. Apollo Bar.

I just love it here. Set in and amongst Kunsthal Charlottenborg (one of the most beautiful exhibition spaces for contemporary art) owned & run by Frederik Bille-Brahe, Apollo bar serves up delicious cocktails and delicious dishes. Plus the people watching is A+ especially on the weekends. My favourite time to visit is late afternoon so I can sit in the courtyard and catch the sun.

4. Dragør

On my most recent visit to Copenhagen in June, I visited this idyllic fishing village just outside of Copenhagen. It is a perfect example of cute classic Danish houses in tiny cobblestone streets that you can wander through & Instagram to your hearts delight. I highly recommend visiting Nam-Nam, a teeny little ice cream shop that serves up the most delicious ice cream in handmade waffle cones.

5. La Banchina

This is the spot I yearn for. It’s always one of the first places I head to when I arrive in Copenhagen. I jump on my bike and ride through picturesque Christiania, past NOMA and finally arrive at Refshaleøen harbor to this darling little farm to table restaurant and wine bar with on-site sauna. It’s open all day everyday, a great spot for breakfast but even better for an Aperol Spritz or Natural Wine on the jetty. You’ll spy customers diving off said jetty into the harbor, cooling off on a hot day or cooling down from the sauna even in the middle of winter!
