Humans in hej hej - Sarah Street
We recently sat down for a chat with Sarah, founder of local footwear label, Bronwyn. When Sarah isn’t running around after her two sons, she is busy creating elevated footwear essentials for conscious and forward-thinking women, i.e. the perfect shoes for any hej hej outfit.
Introduce yourself in one sentence:
Hello, I’m Sarah Street, Founder of Bronwyn Footwear and Mother to two beautiful boys Vinnie and Cas. I feel most at home at the beach with my kiddos or doing something creative.
Tell us about Bronwyn and your shoe design background
I founded Bronwyn in August 2021 after 13 years in the footwear industry, naming the brand after my late Mother - Bronwyn, who is my biggest inspiration. I think starting Bronwyn was a natural evolution for me that I was never quite prepared to realise until I was on maternity leave with my second son. While I had some downtime (I use that term ironically!), I decided it was time to start exploring the idea of starting a brand of my own. I think when you start a brand you are in many ways naive as to what you’re about to undertake, which I think is a good thing, but it also makes for a very steep and long learning curve - one I’m still, and probably forever will be riding.
What's your favourite style from the latest Bronwyn collection?
My newest obsession from our Winter Range is Maggie in Latte. I love the lighter shade for transeasonal and colder weather. It pairs well with denim and anything oversized - I love the contrast of the tight fit of Maggie with a baggier leg fit. The stretch leather at the back of the boot adds a luxe comfort to the style. The toe is a softly asymmetrical square, which is subtle yet elevated and comfortable to wear. These will be my go-tos for the Winter season I think.

What outfit would you match it with from Two Birds. One Stone.?
I love love love the Cream Puff Top, it’s so flattering and comfortable, and I love the fact you can dress it up or down. I think this is so great paired with wide-leg pants or baggy jeans. The weight of it is perfect too for running around after two boys while trying to run a business and still look and feel fressssssh.
What should people be looking for when they're investing in boots this winter?
I think people should always invest in leather footwear, and try to support small-run, local brands. At Bronwyn we try to keep all our heels under a certain height so they’re as comfortable as possible. Leather lining also helps with breathability and rubber outsoles allow for flexibility when walking, creating a more comfortable fit.
Thank you Sarah for being part of Humans in hej hej and wearing the Cream Puff Top so well! We’ll be hosting Bronwyn at our Wellington store this April. Stay tuned for details!
